The territory of Reuben, highlighted in blue.

The Tribe of Reuben was comprised of the descendants of Jacob's firstborn, Reuben. After King David's grandson, Rehoboam, came to the throne, the Tribe of Reuben, along with the Tribes of Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Ephraim, Manasseh, and a few people of the Tribes of Simeon and Levi (see Genesis 49:7), broke off from the house of David and founded the Kingdom of Israel in the north. It was later abducted by the Assyrian Empire with all the above tribes. Some of the descendants of Reuben are believed to have been the Vikings.
